Vusa Cancele acronymed VUCA is an iniative dedicated to the upbringing of Cancele Senior Seconday School (also known as Advent High School ) which is based on the outskirts of Mount Frere in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa where I spent 3 years of my High School as a Boarding Scholar in 1994, '95 and '96. 'Vusa' is an Nguni word meaning 'To Revive'. Xhosa, Zulu, Ndebele and Swati speaking people use this word in the greatest of intentions. Whenever they speak about vusa in the context of revival, they say it with passion.

Cancele has a very rich history and even in its current deplorable condition it is still committed to academic exellence. In 2008 Cancele was among the 3 top performing schools in its region. The members of VUCA, mostly ex attendees are voluntary members with a common aim of reviving Cancele and are passionate about the school. The Association embarks on projects that will generate money and awareness about the school. By so doing, Cancele can be promoted and be put at center stage as a Christian School providing exceptional education. In the same vein, all members and potential members of VUCA will be passionate about 'resuscitating' Cancele by giving their time and/or money.

VUCA works closely with the school's administration and the Alumni to promote Cancele as an Education facility in South Africa and beyond borders.

The School currently has no funding apart from school fees which are not always paid on time or in full. You can appreciate therefore that the School is financially strained and it's survival threatened. In its state it is a worry not just for the staff but for the parents and the pupils themselves. But above all for the Communities in the surrounding villages who so desperately need the school.

The short term plans with your help are to help the school to atleast brake even at the end of each month so the teachers can concentrate on doing their job deligently without worrying about the school's future.
Medium term plans include refurbishing the school, recruiting volunteers to spent some time at the school, increasing staff salaries so they atleast reach acceptable levels and seeking and securing sponsorship/funding.
And long-term plans include major changes to get Cancele in the list of world class High Schools, producing sporting legends who can be part of the National teams at Olympic and other world championships levels, great Musicians and a School where leavers can go to any University of their choice in the world. This is the vision God has revealed, and we thank Him.

For this cause I have decided to dedicate my efforts and with your help we can join hands and be part of something meaningful and special contributing to the betterment of others; changing the face of South Africa .
